Karen Rivo Joins Pardes’s North American Board

(New York, NY – December 26, 2019) Pardes is pleased to announce that Karen Rivo of Miami Beach, Florida has joined the North American Board of the Pardes Institute of Jewish Studies.
“We are so honored to have Karen join our North American board,” said Rabbi Leon Morris, President of Pardes. “Her commitment to Jewish learning and her devotion to the people of Israel make her an ideal board member. I look forward to working closely with her in the years ahead.”

Karen is the immediate past President of Temple Beth Sholom in Miami Beach and currently serves as co-Chair of the Israel Committee. Nationally, she serves on the North American Board of the Union for Reform Judaism (URJ), the URJ Israel and Reform Zionism Committee and the 2020 URJ World Zionist Congress Leadership Cabinet. Karen also serves as Chair of the General Obligation Bond Oversight Committee for the City of Miami Beach.

Karen and husband Marc love Israel so much that they recently became citizens. They are the loving and proud parents of two adult daughters—Jessica, who graduated from the Pardes Day School Educators Program in 2019 and Julie, a family medicine resident in San Diego.

“We are all excited for Karen to join our board,” said Deborah Shapira, Chair of the Board of Directors of Pardes, North America. “She has so much to contribute, with her experience and skills as a lay leader in the Jewish community, and her passion for Pardes’s work. I look forward to working with her as we grow Pardes’s impact in Jerusalem, North America and beyond.”

The Pardes Institute of Jewish Studies (www.pardes.org.il) is not only a place to learn Torah — it is a leading proponent of open, inclusive, diverse and intellectually challenging learning environments, in Jerusalem and around the world. Pardes believes that Torah is the inheritance of every Jew, regardless of background or affiliation, and that when Jewish communities welcome multiple perspectives and practice constructive disagreement, the Jewish people are strengthened.
