“My wife, Gail, and I came to Pardes on a leave from our jobs in order to have the experience of full time Jewish study for the semester. After my wonderful experience at Pardes, I will return to my job as a professor of mathematical sciences and as an administrator at a university. As an applied mathematician, I have contributed to the mathematics of baseball, biology, bombs and bugs. (You can see from my initials that I like the letter B) and currently work on Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) Education projects. Studying at Pardes and living in Jerusalem for an extended period have been spectacular. While I am improving my understanding of Jewish texts and how to study them, I am also engaging with a diverse group of people (age, gender, religious backgrounds, life experiences, etc) where the only commonality is that everyone is both intelligent and also passionate about Jewish learning. Among the unexpected positive aspects was that I could see how I can apply what I have learned in Daniel Roth’s Conflict Resolution class to benefit me with regards to interpersonal relations in my career. I have experienced much personal and educational growth at Pardes that will be a part of me for the rest of my life.”
