Andras (Eliezer) Mogyoro

“As a teenager I participated in different forms of informal Jewish education (summer camps, seminars, lectures at the JCC in Budapest), and later I had the privilege of spending a shorter period of time in different yeshivot. Since then, I have been studying Jewish texts on a weekly basis, but I was lacking the skills to learn those texts independently.

“My two main goals in coming to Pardes were to improve my textual skills and to learn about Israeli society. I’ve been struck by how much effort the learning requires, but my teachers – Leah, Judy, Michael, Daniel and Howard- have guided me in this effort in an excellent way. Between the learning and the hiking and volunteering, Pardes

has offered me the opportunity to work on both of my goals at one place.

“The highlight of my stay at Pardes thus far was the Rabbinic Tiyul where we visited the city in the Galil where the Mishna was edited; we read texts from the Mishna and discussed with the teachers the context in which the Mishna was drafted.”
