Why Study In Israel?
Now more than ever, Jewish educators are also expected to be Israel educators. Whether in the classroom, in summer camp, or on a college campus, first-hand experience of Israeli life, culture, and politics is a must for Jewish educators, as is the ability to make that experience nuanced, personally meaningful and accessible to others. In the context of the diverse Pardes community in Jerusalem, where a multitude of views are shared and celebrated, PCJE offers a unique view on Israel education for Jewish educators aiming to return to work and live in North America.
How?
First and foremost, the classic Pardes experience is an Israel experience. The Pardes Institute's location in Jerusalem allows students to take advantage of the layers of history and rich resources that the city offers. Furthermore, students at Pardes embark on tiyulim around the country steeped in textual, historical, and cultural background; they are also exposed to speakers, debates, and dialogues on contemporary Israeli issues on a regular basis.
Beyond this, PCJE students take part in an Israel education course, whose curriculum includes the study of traditional and modern texts about Israel; experiential learning – including site visits; diverse opportunities for discourse; and explorations of the many possibilities for building connections. Students will be provided with opportunities to engage in the conversation of what a Jewish state should look like and what its core values should be.
