When we say "progressives" we mean people who self-identify as being on the political left. They are often called "liberals" in the United States (but not in most other countries). They usually vote for candidates from the Democratic Party in the United States.
The term "conservatives" refers to people who self-identify as being on the political right. They usually vote for candidates from the Republican Party in the United States.
