Sacks Torah Awards Foundation Honors Pardes Faculty Member Rabbi Levi Cooper

Jerusalem, Israel - November 22, 2005 (20 Cheshvan) - Rabbi Levi Cooper, Director of Advanced Programs at the Pardes Institute of Jewish Studies in Jerusalem, has been awarded a prize recognizing outstanding achievements in bringing Jews of all walks closer together through Torah study. The prize was awarded by the Sacks Torah Awards Foundation in memory of the late Rabbi MenachemÊand Rabbanit Hannah Sacks.

"We are proud of Levi's contributions to the community which make him a true inspiration at Pardes," stated Rabbi Daniel Landes, Director of Pardes.

"It was a tremendous honor to receive this award. It gives my wife and me strength as we continue working for the Jewish people," said Rabbi Cooper.

As Director of Advanced Programs at the Pardes Institute of Jewish Studies in Jerusalem, Rabbi Cooper directs the Pardes Advanced Scholars Program and the Pardes Fellows Program. Rabbi Cooper also teaches Halakha at Midreshet Lindenbaum and is an historian and educator with university-age yeshiva students on Heritage Seminars in Poland. His weekly column on Talmud, "World of Our Sages," is published by the Jerusalem Post newspaper. Rabbi Cooper has written many articles in Judaic studies and has authored a number of workbooks and other educational materials for use in high schools.

Rabbi Cooper studied with Chabad and in the Shaalvim Hesder Yeshiva, and served in the Golani infantry brigade of the Israel Defense Forces. He received Smicha from Beit HaDin HaRabbani HaGadol in Jerusalem and is an active member of Tzohar rabbis organization. He holds an LL.B. and L.M. from Bar Ilan University and is a member of the Israel Bar Association.
