Pardes and ICCI Present Interreligious Panel at Rabbi Yitz Greenberg's Israel Book Launch

Controversial Theses in "For the Sake of Heaven and Earth, The New Encounter Between Judaism and Christianity" to be Discussed at Pardes Event

Jerusalem, Israel - November 18, 2004 (5 Kislev) The Interreligious Coordinating Council of Israel together with the Pardes Institute of Jewish Studies will be launching Rabbi Irving (Yitz) Greenberg's new book, 3For the Sake of Heaven and Earth, The New Encounter Between Judaism and Christianity.2 An ordained Orthodox rabbi and a Harvard Ph.D., Irving (Yitz) Greenberg is president of Jewish Life Network/Steinhardt Foundation.

In his new book Rabbi Greenberg presents a number of provocative theses. He calls for Christians and Jews to come together in their continuously evolving partnership with God - dual covenants that demand "openness to each other, learning from each other, and a respect for the distinctiveness of the ongoing validity of each other." In the first half of his book, Rabbi Greenberg takes us on his personal journey to a rethinking of Christianity, which ultimately gave rise to his belief that Christianity, Judaism (and every religion that works to repair the world and advance the triumph of life) are valid expressions of the pact between God and humankind. In Part 2 he brings together for the first time his seven most important essays on the new encounters between Judaism and Christianity.

The launch will take place on Tuesday 23 November at 8 p.m. at the Pardes Institute of Jewish Studies, 29 Pierre Koenig Street. Following Rabbi Greenberg's presentation, Professor-Sister Maureena Fritz, NDS, and Brother Jack Driscoll of the Bat Kol Institute will respond. Rabbi Greenberg is available to the press from 7:30-8 p.m.
