Jerusalem, Israel - June 21, 2005 (14 Sivan) - The Pardes Institute of Jewish Studies will host a cross-denominational discussion at the Israel launch of Rabbi David Ellenson's new book "After Emancipation: Jewish Religious Responses to Modernity."Â

Rabbi Ellenson, President of Hebrew Union College - Jewish Institute of Religion, will speak on "Jewish Religious Responses to Modernity: Reflections and Challenges," followed by comments by Rabbi Daniel Gordis, Vice President Mandel Foundation Israel and Director of the Mandel Leadership Institute in Jerusalem and Rabbi Daniel Landes, Director and Rosh HaYeshivah of the Pardes Institute of Jewish Studies in Jerusalem. Rabbi Ellenson was the 1997 Pardes Blaustein Scholar. The Blaustein Scholars Program was established by a generous grant for the Jacob and Hilda Blaustein Foundation of Baltimore.

"This dialogue of three scholars, each of whom presents a different approach to Judaism, continues lively discussions we had as colleagues in Los Angeles and exemplifies Pardes' commitment to encouraging diverse viewpoints in an open environment.  What we have in common is a deep concern for the future of the Jewish people," stated Rabbi Landes.

The event will take place on Wednesday July 6 at 7:30 pm at the Pardes Institute of Jewish Studies, 29 Pierre Koening (corner Rivka), 25 NIS admission.
