Pardes Institute Offers Full-Day Event to Celebrate Jerusalem’s 40th Anniversary
Yom Yerushalayim Program Includes Guided Tours of Ancient and Modern Battle Sites
Jerusalem, Israel – May 1, 2007 (13 Iyar) – The Pardes Institute of Jewish Studies is offering a full day of events in celebration of Jerusalem’s 40th anniversary on May 16th. The program includes text study with Rabbi Daniel Landes, Pardes Director and Rosh HaYeshiva; lunch overlooking the old city; visits to sites of notable battles for Jerusalem from Biblical times to 1967; dinner; songs of Israel; and personal reflections from 1948 and 1967.
“This is a dynamic day of exploration of Jerusalem’s importance throughout history, from Biblical times to our modern state. We’re deepening the meaning of our celebration through a variety of interactive learning with leading teachers and tour guides,” said Pardes Israel Board Member John Corre, who is co-chairing the event with his wife Tabby.
“Pardes’ Yom Yerushalayim celebration will be an exciting blend of Jewish texts, history, philosophy, politics, and just plain fun!” added Audrey Kaplan Scher, Chair of Pardes’ Israel Board of Directors. “What an unforgettable way to mark 40 years of the city’s reunification.”
Jerusalem residents and visitors are invited to join the day’s events. The fee for the day is 500 NIS; proceeds will benefit the Pardes Student Scholarship Fund.
The Pardes Institute of Jewish Studies The Pardes Institute of Jewish Studies in Jerusalem offers men and women of all backgrounds the authentic study of classic Jewish texts in the rigorous, challenging and open environment of dynamic Beit Midrash Havruta partner learning. Pardes, founded in 1972, offers a Year Program for university graduates as well as Educators, Summer, Spiritual and Advanced Scholars learning programs. Pardes students who qualify receive support from the Jewish Agency for Israel’s MASA – The Gateway to Long-term Israel Programs initiative.
